| Just saw on CNN that Sarah Palin (and her family? not sure on that - if it was just her or her and her family) that she has spent $150,000 on campaign clothes. YIKES! $75,000 at Neiman-Marcus!!! Something like $49,000 at Saks! Someone needs to introduce that woman to TJ Maxx!!!! | |

| A little snippet:
(CNN) -- There's been a lot of sniping and a lot of stories Wednesday about Gov. Sarah Palin's clothes.
Politico.com reports that the Republican National Committee spent more than $150,000 on clothes, hair and make-up for Palin on the campaign trail. Now, these are not your tax dollars.
This is money given by Republican donors to the RNC. But the report questions whether it is legal to use campaign cash for quote "personal use."
Certainly the guys suits are no cheapies, but whoa, $150,000 buys a lot of black suits and mascara!!!!

| Can this woman catch a break at all? It breaks my heart to see that she can't seem to do anything right. Big deal that the campaign helped her (and her family) out with her wardrobe. I actually expected them to help her. She is different than the "usual" politicians we are accustomed to. She is unlike just about everyone else in the respect that she isn't a "Millionaire" like McCain, Obama and Biden. She is an average person just like us compared to them. Why is it not ok for her to get some help so that she looks nice while she is campaigning? It was the first thing I thought of when McCain chose her. I wondered if they would help her out because maybe she didn't have a lot of nice things to wear. If she was wearing the same outfits day in and day out people would be complaining and asking why McCain or the Party isn't helping her out, I guarantee you they would be calling her Trailer Trash.. She actually has worn the same outfits several times. It's not as if she spent it all on one outfit. When I think about it, Hilary was trash talked on her choice of wardrobe. The same people in the trash talking media that hate Palin hated Hilary too and crushed and destroyed her in the same way no matter what she said, did or wore. People need to take a closer look into where the $600 million that Obama raised has gone, (and whereit came from) He has spent millions on ad's. He is going to spend 3 million dollars on three 30 minute spots alone. It amazes me that this is such a huge scandalous story and the fact that Obama was a drug addict, he did Cocaine and smoked Marijuana while in college and continued for some time even after College when he moved to Chicago he was still using drugs (he wrote about that in his book).Did anyone from the media track down his dealer? Did they try to find out if Obama ever dealt drugs himself? Has anyone investigated if he is still doing drugs? We know he has continued to smoke even after promising he would quit. He admitted that in an interview a week ago or so. Did they (the mainstream elite media) ask him about why he promoted a book written by Ayers a guy he claimed was just "a guy that lived on the same street" in order to downplay his association with him until the truth began to surface (well, some of the truth, who knows if he ever tells the truth). And what about his other friends that live on that same street? Some very interesting people that he is close to live on that same street! Obama Praised Ayers Book in 1997. Obama was even Mentioned in Book. Why is it not important that Obama promoted Ayers' book in 1997? Why is it not important that he has continued to lie about the full extent of his relationship with Ayers and ACORN among others? http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/20/obama-praised-searing-timely-book-ayers/And lets not forget about his relationships and friendships with others besides the likes of Bill Ayers, for instance Father Pfleger, Jeremiah Wright, Bernadette Dohrn, ACORN, Tony Rezko, George Soros and Community Organizer, Louis Farrakhan and Rashid Khalidi, etc. (He lied about Khalidi at first) Then as usual he told us maybe some of the truth..... Obama admits relationship with Rashid KhalidiOh and what about Barack Obama's Childhood Mentor 'Frank' Marshall Davis, MEMBER OF SOCIALIST PARTY and a PORNOGRAPHER., Also Saudi, Khalid Monsour, Louis Farrakhan is another person he lied about, then once again when he is found out in yet another lie he admits the relationship. These are important issues.....VERY IMPORTANT ISSUES. |

| Jane, you don't see $150,000 as a bit excessive on clothing? I'm sure as Govenor of Alaska she had a decent wardrobe. I would say the same about any of the candidates.
In the big picture, of course, this is not the most important thing. But yikes, over a couple of months period that's alot of $$$!!!
Maybe it includes hiring a hairdresser to follow her around. Maybe even a make-up person. I suppose that would account for some of it...

| I just wanted to add this. I heard it on the news yesterday, but didn't want to just put that I had heard it on the news. So I googled it. WASHINGTON -- A spokesman for Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin says the campaign will donate to charity some $150,000 in clothing and accessories the Republican National Committee has purchased for the Alaska governor.Money donated to the Republican campaign paid for the clothes. The announcement comes after the Politico reported that the committee spent more than $49,000 at Saks Fifth Avenue stores in St. Louis and New York and another $75,000 at Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis. Palin spokesman Tracey Schmitt released a statement saying it was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign. |

| what Basket said, re the scarf. i wouldn't put it passed the Huffington Post to spread this photo in a deliberate fraudulent attempt to make Sarah look stoopid. maybe it's a photoshop, or some Palin Poser. we'll never be able to assess that, given we only see a partial photo via Sponge's link. i wonder why the matter of wardrobe/accessories worn by Hillary during the primarys never made media coverage? surely, her wardrobe doesn't come cheap, either. and would we, the American public, want our mover/shakers dressed in low quality attire? they are our royalty! Palin is and has been a public servant for quite some time. considering the magnitude of travel involved with running on a presidential ticket, the 150k price tag may not be that much out of line? it seems to me her clothes, and those of others in the political arena, might also be... a tax deduction? any accountants who post here that could answer that question? | |

| If you scroll down Spongie's second link you can see that it is indeed Sarah wearing the scarf....
I know it's not the most major thing in the world, but when I saw that last night (and then I started a thread) it shocked me. Most "hockey moms" are sporting anywhere NEAR that type of budget....

| thanks, Sponge. i saw the full picture, and agree it is Palin. apologies to Huffington, etal (<<that hurt ] there has to be a background story behind her wearing the scarf that hasn't been reported. i refuse to believe she's sending mixed signals on the campaign trail! | |

| No, coco, I don't believe that either.
I think that, one, she was oblivious to what was on the scarf, only thinking, "Oh Look! It's pretty! It's red white and blue! It says VOTE!"
Two, she doesn't know the donkey/elephant themes for the parties.
Or three, someone slipped it to her and she didn't notice the donkeys, just the Vote and Pretty... (see point one).
In all these cases, my thoughts are, "OMG! She's wearing a scarf that says Vote for the Democrats!" Which is kind of funny, at least.... |

| I will never understand women's ability to attack their own. Who the hell cares about the scarf she's wearing? Really?
And if you think 150K is an outlandish budget for a vice presidential nominee...please! If she showed up in Walmart wear could you imagine the outcry?
If anything has disheartened me about this election, it's the ferocious attack on a good woman doing her job. She's an unapologetic conservative, so that makes her less of a woman? What the hell?
Abortion and other liberal positions ARE NOT WOMEN'S POSITIONS. They are LIBERAL positions. MANY women are prolife and thank God we have a woman who is out there fighting for us. Also, thank God she embraces her femininity and doesn't promote that horrible lie most women have bought, that you have to somehow asexualize yourself to be professional.
She represents a true liberated woman...a woman who actually gets to be herself. God bless America!!!

Renee, first of all, I don't see her as a woman, I see her as a candidate - as a woman, I don't want advantages OR disadvantages because I am a woman - I am a person with beliefs -my sex does not define me. Honestly, I don't know if I would notice if she showed up in "Walmart" clothes - I stated above, it was the amount that "shocked" me - not that it was Sarah Palin and the amount ... Yikes. Most woman feel you have to asexualize yourself to be professional? Not in my professional world. Again, good people who do good work should be valued -man or woman. Some of this stuff I can't even touch and won't because it just gets ugly.... I think this thread as a whole needs to take a chill pill - that includes democrats, republicans, woman, men, etc. etc.

I think this thread as a whole needs to take a chill pill - that includes democrats, republicans, woman, men, etc. etc. Well, perhaps therein lies some of our difficulty. You say that your sex does not define you. I embrace the unique ways my sex does define me. I am equally capable as others, men and women, far more capable than some, and less capable than other. But there are things about me that are unique because I am a woman, and I celebrate that. That is something I relate to in Sarah Palin. And I absolutely stand by the comment about women asexualizing themselves. Women are warned they have to dress down their sexuality to be considered serious. We even had a CLASS on it at business school. Why? Why should I have to bury that facet of myself? Men don't. Men wear suits to emphasize their broad shoulders and narrow hips. They wear ties that show off their eyes. Yet women are supposed to make sure they are prim and proper at all times. I deeply resent that, and until that inequality is settled, women will always be at a disadvantage. When one sales rep's clients requested to be transferred to my accounts, the salesman said, "Well you know why? You've got big boobs." I laughed all the way to the bank. I refused to let those standards affect me. Of couse, as you can tell, this is something of a crusade of mine, hence my overuse of exclamation points in my earlier post. I'm sorry you feel this thread needs to take a chill pill, basket, but I respectfully disagree. Are we no longer allowed to express ourselves passionately here in the upper rooms?

| ? Women can wear scarfs that show off their eyes, and suits that show off their narrow waist and broad hips....
However, women can't, in business, wear short skirts and tight blouses, and men can't wear tight shirts and bejeweled jock straps. I don't see men's suits as being "sexy" at all, not in the skin tight show what you got sense, so I don't see what you are trying to say.....
The days of the woman dressing in a men's suit are gone as well. The way that Hillary Clinton dresses and the way that Palin dresses seem very much the same to me (except Clinton paid for her clothing herself, and didn't drop $150,000, but that's another story...), so you would say that Clinton also embraces her femininity?
'cause I think she does, and I think that she is a fiery feminist, I think she loves men, and I am proud of her for the same reason you are proud of Sarah Palin, but I still expect Clinton to give interviews, answer questions, and be held to the same criteria as any man running for President. I expect no less from Palin. |

Because we are women and if we respond to Palin's candicacy as a woman making history, there are two ways of looking at the ' first woman in the white house ' thing.
One is . . .Lets get a woman in the door . . . and here she is go vote. . . yeah us . . . this is history here. Doors being opened. Its about time.
Two is . . .its truly time for women to find thier equality in government and show the world that they are strong, capable leaders. We've been held down too long. . . and if Palin gets in there and proves herself to be something less we might not get another chance for the next 100 years.
I'm in group two . . . I think she's capable of turning into a nightmare and just might put our cause backwards.

Renee, I just saw things turning very heated and since Morgan is working I just felt I should try and put the brakes on a little bit to avoid things getting out of hand - sometimes it takes such a short time - seconds in posts - for things to turn ugly. While I don't agree with some of your point of view, I respect it and the energy with it.

| Basket is just trying to cool things a bit which is necessary quite often in heated political debate. Im good with all the passion about the issues and even about the candidates personally so this is good Obama thinks his poop don't stink. McCain couldnt balance a scale forget the budget. What I'm not good with is . . . How the hell can you say that ? your post shows your lack of understanding the issues. everyone knows Obama poops ice cream and McCain is a rocket scientist, get a clue. The second post attacks the poster for having an opinion. That's where I draw the line. enter Clay singing . . . . where I draaaaaaaaaaaaa ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | |

| Palin's makeup stylist cost $22,800 for the first two weeks of October. The stylist, Amy Strozzi, was apparently paid more than any other McCain staffer during that period. |
