Health Care Rationing and the Invasion of Your Privacy: It’s in the “Stimulus Package”

The economic costs of the so-called “stimulus package” are now well known, and taxpayers are fighting back hard against the bill’s dangerous spending and debt.

But, beyond the bill’s reckless trillion-dollar price tag are some even greater threats to Americans.

In fact, the biggest costs of this scheme will be measured not in dollars and cents, but in life and death.

What does the so-called “stimulus package” mean for your health care? Hidden in the dark recesses of this monstrous spending bill are the first steps towards full-on health care socialism:

* Government rationing of your health care
* Government ownership and control of your medical records

Under the bureaucratic jargon of “Comparative Effectiveness Review” the package heavily funds the first steps towards the government-mandated rationing of health care and tramples your right to medical privacy. (Our own AFP senior fellow, Dr. Larry Hunter, was the first to blow the whistle on this. His column about it is here.)

First, the federal government would establish a massive new database to capture the full medical records of every American.

Then, federal bureaucrats will careful read and analyze all of your most private medical information as they see fit, and use that information to grant or deny treatment to Americans.

This new program would empower federal bureaucrats to decide, based on elaborate mathematic equations, which procedures and treatment are worthwhile for you. If you are old, sick, or have conditions that are expensive to treat, the government can deny you treatment – even if you can afford to pay for it.

Doctors and hospitals that don’t participate in this new government health care scheme will face penalties, and eventually everyone will be forced into the system – whether your insurance is public or private.

You don’t have to take our word for it-- Betsy McCaughey lays it all out in a chilling column on Bloomberg that quotes everything directly from the bill.

Hiding a government takeover of health care in the stimulus bill is dishonest.

When Americans had an open national debate on this issue in the 1990s, they decisively rejected socialized, government-run and -rationed care.

With all the real challenges Americans face when it comes to health care, we deserve an open and honest debate. But if this so-called “stimulus” becomes law, that discussion will be over before it even starts. You and I won’t even have a chance to fight back.

But we can fight back today!

Surprisingly, many U.S. Senators and members of Congress have no idea that these outrageous health care provisions are even in the bill. Sign the petition!

Call your elected officials today and say “NO HEALTH CARE RATIONING! NO STIMULUS!”

There is so much stuff in this Bill that hasn't even been debated. And so many pet projects it's shocking. These people in Washington are using this Bill to pass stuff that they know wouldn't pass on their own merit.

Most of what's in there has absolutely nothing to do with creating jobs, helping people hold onto their homes and so forth. It's pure waste. My goodness every day I hear more and more of the pork that's in it and I want to scream......

There is more pork than actual stimulus, $50 million for TSA Uniforms? And there is so much more that has nothing to do with creating jobs, or helping people get back to work.

There is no way if any one of us were to sit down and actually read what's in this package we would even approve.

All we have heard Obama talk about is construction jobs. And money for teachers, firemen, police....Those are all State related and construction isn't going to help anyone other than those that work in construction right away.

I feel like this is one big trick. Obama holds a "Town Hall" meeting in the RV Capital.....and talks about building an overpass??? How is that going to get all these people back to work that make RV's? The Town Hall meetings are so frigging scripted it's disgraceful. They are filled with HIS supporter's. Then he goes to Florida and again it's so scripted. They happen to have one the highest rate of foreclosure's in the country.

What good does it do him to go to these places? It's a game, we all get to see him being adored by his fans and I guess we are supposed to be encouraged to believe that what he is doing is the right thing.

He is like a little boy with his new toy's flying around in his 747 without any reason whatsoever. That is such a huge waste of money to the taxpayers.

It costs a lot of money for him to be making these senseless trips. Getting his car's there, the security locally, the cost of using the plane.....

He is just wasting money and time. He needs to get his butt back to Washington and get a Bill together that is actually going to help the country.

He needs to stop allowing Palosi and Reid to run this country.

Why are they insisting on putting all this pork in the Bill that in no way will put people back to work. They aren't in any way going to help the economy.
These are program's that should be discussed at a later date. They aren't even having open discussions on this stuff.

Below is a list just a fraction of the wasteful spending that is being included in this bill. There are other things that States have requested that are unbelievable. Water Parks, Frisbee Park, Upgrade on a Dance Studio in Arizona and so much more stuff that is pure Pork.

The money going to the Filipino's is mostly going to people living overseas. Fine it's money they deserve, but it shouldn't be in this so called Stimulus Bill. Neither should so much of the other things that aren't going to create jobs or help small business get back on their feet and hire back those people they had to let go. Anyway, decide for yourself. Maybe some of you agree with the waste, but I don't.

Bacon Hunt: Stimulus Bill Contains Many Items That May Not Boost Economy

FOXNews.com readers pored over the stimulus package and found a host of expenditures that might not pump money into the economy any time soon. What follows is a list of some of the more fascinating -- if less stimulating -- items in the bill.

Tucked in among the vast construction projects and tax relief programs is an effort to revive a law that's been dead for over 60 years that would provide up to $198 million in pensions for Filipinos who fought alongside the U.S. during WWII. U.S. citizens would get $15,000 a year, but even non-citizens would still get $9,000 a year.

The bill also invests heavily in research and technology. NASA is set to receive $450 million for "Science" and another $200 million for "Aeronautics."

More than $28 billion is being provided to put kids in special education, Head Start and child care and development programs for disadvantaged children.

FOXNews.com readers pored over the package and found a host of expenditures that might not pump money in any time soon. What follows is a list of some of the more fascinating -- if less stimulating -- items in the bill:

-- $100 million for the Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control Grant Program
-- $200 million to the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Trust Fund Program
-- $300 million for "Violence Against Women Prevention and Prosecution Programs"
-- $900 million for the IRS for the "Limitation on Administrative Expenses"
-- $1 million for the Railroad Retirement Board for administrative costs
-- $2 billion for the Drinking Water State Revolving Act
-- $50 million for Health and Human Services to carry out injury prevention programs
-- $1.1 billion for studies on the effectiveness of different medical treatments -- $200 million to upgrade labs and facilities for the Department of Agriculture "to improve workplace safety and mission-area efficiencies"
-- $10 million for urban canal inspection
-- $16 billion to pay for student financial aid
-- $1 billion to pay for the U.S. Census
-- $600 million to pay for a fuel-efficient federal auto fleet
-- $650 million for the Digital Converter Box Program to help the constantly delayed transition from analog television
-- $485 million to the Forest Service for "hazardous fuels reduction and hazard mitigation activities in areas at high risk of catastrophic wildfire"
-- Up to $1 billion for "summer activities" for youths as old as 24
-- $40 million for the occupational research agenda
-- $3 billion for the Centers for Disease Control wellness programs and vaccinations
-- $410 million for Indian health facilities
-- $2.4 billion for carbon-capture demonstrations
