Confederate flag hullabaloo

Have y'all been following this? Because Dylann Roof had a patch of a rebel flag on his shirt when he killed those poor souls, everyone is panicking and demanding that all confederate flags be taken down. Stores have stopped selling items. Here in New Orleans the mayor is saying he's going to have the Robert E. Lee and Andrew Jackson statues taken down. The car from the Dukes of Hazzard - they are making them take off the rebel flag. I'm flabbergasted!!

So shall we get rid of the American flag because you know it offends a lot of people? Shall we destroy historic plantations and war museums and historic buildings here and other southern states? How about we just rewrite history and pretend that era never existed? What about all those men who lost their lives in the Civil war? Shall we just forget they ever existed?

The confederate flag is NOT a symbol of racism and I really don't understand why people associate it with that. All of the things they are in a panic getting rid of have been here for centuries. Why is it now a problem?!

I have never been so ashamed to live in the USA as am now. If I had the financial means I would move to the Caribbean and live the rest of my days as a beach bum (actually I wouldn't mind that at all - just need to win the lottery!). Seriously, this is so out of control!!

They rush to take down flags and statues but who is rushing to take down guns and violent media?

It is ridiculous to remove history but I have to say this, Susan....be proud of your area that they are this outraged and looking for change....a stupid one maybe....but at least their is passion. Other parts of the country have suffered horrors, dropped flowers and moved on.

Does the Confederate flag symbolize slavery? Well, it is a solid reason of what the Confederate army was fighting to protect. But it also symbolizes the solidarity of the Southern States. Get rid of all the flags? Not possible...it would only elevate it to cult status to wear one. But there might be some places that its inappropriate...I dont know...dont live there...but government buildings shouldnt have them in my opinion...if thry do. Maybe get rid of the wearable kind....by choice of course....not legislation, its a free country!

This was my answer when someone posted about legislation for gun control....I think its the same reaction I have to removing flags.....

. Until our children learn the sanctity of human life once again, legislation is not enough. When teens spend their days reveling in bloodbaths on video games and bloody movies they become jaded to the horror. They lose their empathy. When young children get instant gratification by racking up points on a body count honestly now...what do we really expect the result to be? Add the growing alienation caused by electronic communication and people too addicted to leave their homes and know their neighbors and you produce the problem you then want the government to fix. Obama cant give your child a sense of belonging...he cant teach them the sanctity of life...he cant make parents commit to family.....he cant legislate human values. Maybe he should outlaw violent video games along with the guns.

I think it's all ridiculous. Leave history alone. Quit trying to make everything about racism. That time era is gone with the wind. Oh, shall we ban that movie from ever being played again?

Yeah I get real tired of the Racism stuff. Seems its ok to be racist against Caucasions to me. Case in point...Black dating sites. Right, let me put up a White dating site and see what happens.
How about the NAACP.....first off their own name is considered racist if said by others and how About the American Negro College Fund....Am I politically correct to even SAY that ? But its ok...they can call themselves that along with the dreaded N word said affectionately among the Brothers. Can I call them the Brothers or have we lost that word too. I get so confused. But I know this...I dare anyone to start the National Association for the Advancement of Whiite People....or the United White People college fund. The country would burn! !

When are both sides going to learn we create our own problems by calling so much freaking attention to it! Yes, white people had slaves. They are all dead now and we live in a great country! Cant we stop letting Color walk in the room ahead of us. ?..geesh. And you know what....we did worse to the Native Americans in my opinion. But we all seem to get along.

What a shame anyone would consider destroying history rather than tackling the real problem.....the growing alienation of our young.

Has everyone gone crazy out there?   Some pimple face, violence addicted loser walks into a Black church and shoots.  Racism we all scream!   Never mind that a few months before he targeted a mall. What would we have screamed then?  Lets forget he had Black friends...lets zero in on the real problem.  He was wearing a Confederate flag in a picture.  ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?   Now we have Nationwide movements to take down all Confederate flags...why?   So that the next disaffected loser can wear one and make a REAl statement with it.  Yes, let's rise it up to cult status right next to the swastika...that will solve the problem.  Now there are calls to take down the Jefferson Memorial!   I kid you not....Hello World....do you have any idea how happy you are making this cowardly, mentally deranged kid in his little cell changing the f'ing world around him!   Thats right..hand him the power....paste his picture on the front of those magazines...tear down those flags, statues and monuments....cause the next little cowards arent going to want a piece of that power now are they?   HAS THE FREAKING COUNTRY GONE TRULY NUTS?   Racism was just a convenient cause to hang his psychotic hat on. It could have been anything...he was just full of hate. Gun control wasn't going to stop him  (although Im all in favor of it anyway ) A life without Confederate flags wasn't going to cure him.  Feeling some damn empathy and understanding the value of human life was what would have stopped him.  Let's stop blaming flags, and history..and Jefferson!   Insanity.  Let's stand up as adults and sweep our own doorsteps.  Let's find these disaffected kids and save them.  Let's be a world community again where people actually talk OFF SCREEN and share ideas and listen to our kids.  Lets take the 24 hour video screen out of their hands and go back to a plain old phone that just makes calls...at least until they are old enough to earn the money to buy their own.  Lets keep those home computers in visual places.  Let's save our protests for realistic bloody video games and movies...and ummm  dad, turn yours off too.  Let's lock up the guns, take off the profane t-shirts and rip off the My kid can beat up your honor student bumper stickers.  Let's lead by example and keep our kids involved and busy no matter how much they protest.  Lets get involved and clean up the bullying mess of our schools and call for mental health screenings in school to get help for this kind of kid before its too late.  Let's all learn that lost art of knowing your neighbors and could we just all...love one another.Tearing down flags and focusing on racism can only cause a bigger divide.Sorry, I had to rant.....sigh.
